Tuesday, 16th February, Drs. Piet HOEBEKE and Anne-Francoise SPINOIT tested the insertion of a ZSI 100 FTM in a phalloplasty at the Universitair Ziekenhuis, in Ghent, Belgium, before the worldwide launching of this new generation of implants designed for transgender FTM.
The insertion test was a success. Prior to the test insertion, an Ambicor penile implant (AMS) was removed during the phalloplasty due to mechanical failure. Dr. Piet HOEBEKE dilated the phalloplasty up to 24 CH with a Hegar dilator. The ZSI 100 FTM penile implant was shortened from 16 cm to 13.5 cm to adapt its length to the phalloplasty. The ZSI 100 FTM penile implant was introduced easily in the phalloplasty. Fixing the proximal plate was simple: there was enough space on the pubic bone. Dr. Piet Hoebeke also tested the insertion of the ZSI 100 FTM without the glans. He easily sculpted the distal tip, made of silicone, to make it round in shape, in order to adapt to a fibrotic phalloplasty. Again the result was successful. Easy insertion of the malleable ZSI 100 FTM penile implant is confirmed.
Dr. Piet Hoebeke is head of the Department of Urology at the University Hospital in Ghent, Belgium. Dr. Hoebeke’s interests extend to paediatric urology and urogenital reconstruction in general.
Dr. Hoebeke is active in several multidisciplinary teams, including the DSD team for congenital disorders of sexual development and the gender team for the treatment of patients with gender dysphoria.
