Zephyr Surgical Implants is proud to announce the first succesful implantation of a specifically designed Transgender penile implant ZSI 475 FTM in France. The procedure was performed at “Centre Hospitalier Lyon Sud” in France by Dr Nicolas Morel-Journel and his team.
After a lateral incision, dilatation of phalloplasty was done using Hegar dilators to accommodate the new implant. A scrotal pouch was made to accommodate the pump that controls the function of the implant. A bilateral pouch was done to accommodate a testis prosthesis. An inguinal incision on the right side was performed for access to the pelvis to place the reservoir beside the bladder. Great care was taken when preforming this as this area has vascular vessel crossing this region that leads to the blood supply of the newly created phalloplasty.
After this preparation the patient was ready to receive his penile implant ZSI 475 FTM. The reservoir was first put in place in the pelvis. Then the glans was inserted and went to the top of the phalloplasty without any problem. Dr Nicolas Morel-Journel considers that we could stop dilatation of the phalloplasty at 20F the glans is large, it has a corona but its ventral profile is flat to ease the passage of the urethra. The inflatable part, deflated during insertion, found its place immediately in the phalloplasty. The sutures of the proximal part looked easy and strong.
The patient had enough space in the scrotum to receive the pump. After connection of the pump with the reservoir a first inflation test was done. The phalloplasty went from flaccidity to a nice and strong erection (the inflatable part is 21-22 mm diameter as inflated, then you have to add the thickness of the fat and the thickness of the skin of the phalloplasty to imagine the total diameter of this penis having an erection).
The top of the phalloplasty is filled with the glans of the prosthesis. It is easy to feel the corona as we would do with a penis of a cis man.Pressing the deflating valve of the pump, Dr Nicolas Morel-Journel returned the penis to its flaccid stage. A testis prosthesis was placed in the scrotum to finish the procedure. The patient will wait (6-8 weeks) for healing before been able to use the new implant.
