Pedicled ALT phalloplasty uses an ALT flap (Anterolateral Thigh flap). At one end the flap remains attached to the donor site and the other end is connected to the recipient site, preserving blood supply. This means that there is no need to connect the blood supply microsurgically, which reduces costs and more importantly, reduces risks of flap failure and necrosis.
The size of the implant depends on the patient and the decision of the performing surgeon. The procedure will leave a scar on the upper side of the patient’s thigh.
Pedicled ALT phalloplasty enables the patient to urinate while standing. The patient can lead a normal sex life as sexual intercourse, including erotic and tactile sensations and orgasms, are possible.
