ALT FREE-FLAP PHALLOPLASTY

The Anterolateral Thigh (ALT) Flap is made of skin, fat and fascia. The descending branch of the lateral femoral circumflex vessels supplies blood to the flap and the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve provides innervation.

The term “free flap” implies that tissue will be transplanted from one site of the body to another and will be completely detached, including its blood supply, from the original site (donor site). The tissue is transferred to a different location (recipient site), where circulation is provided micro-surgically by anastomosis of artery(s) and vein(s).

ALT Free Flap Phalloplasty therefore uses an ALT Flap which is completely detached from the donor site. The arteries and veins of the flap and the recipient site must be micro-surgically connected to provide blood supply.
